This summer I hope to get back to seeing some baseball in Europe. Each summer I take students on trips around the world. This summer will be a return trip to Spain. I have been fortunate to have been twice, but both times were on scheduled tours. This summer is again on a scheduled tour, but I am looking at the possibility of going early or staying late. It will all depend on baseball schedules.
My first thought is to go a week early and see more of Spain on my own, possibly take a side trip into Portugal where I have never been. I would love to see Valencia and an Astros game while there. That is probably my first choice. Second choice would be another game in Spain somewhere, basically just whoever is at home during the weekend I would be there.
Another option I thought of was to have the tour company fly me to Paris instead of Spain. I would then hit up the Normandy beaches first. I have seen Omaha, but very briefly. I would love to spend a week here on my own touring some of the historic sites. I was thinking maybe hitting up a game in Rouen, then heading to Normandy to view the beaches for a few days. Then finally heading to Spain to meet up with my group.
At this point it is just a waiting game to see when schedules come out before I finalize plans. Where would you rather see a game? Valencia or Rouen?
