Camden Riversharks To Host Player Tryouts

UNITED STATES – The Camden Riversharks announced today that they will be hosting an open tryout session at Campbell’s Field on Saturday, March 27th at 9 a.m. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. and there is a $40 fee for all participants. Players should bring their own wooden bats, gloves, footwear, and catching gear as needed. A tee shirt will be provided for all who tryout.

Representatives from the Riversharks and other Atlantic League officials will be present to scout those who attend. Both pitchers and field position players are welcome to tryout, but collegiate athletes will not be allowed to participate, as doing so can compromise their NCAA eligibility.

The last few open tryout sessions that the Riversharks have hosted led to players being signed and leaving the ballpark with a contract in hand. Dewon Brazelton, a first round selection of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 2001, is a prime example of a player who made the Riversharks opening day roster after attending the open tryout. Brazelton has had multiple stints in the major leagues as a right handed pitcher, and in 2009 he appeared in the starting rotation for the Riversharks, earning a 3.69 ERA, with a 6-8 record.

Another pitcher was also acquired from last season’s open tryouts was Anthony Capella. The 2007 graduate of Gwynedd-Mercy College caught the attention of the Riversharks coaching staff and was offered a contract after coaches took a second look at him during the season. Capella appeared in 24 games for Camden last season and registered a 5.11 ERA.

“You never know what you are going to get with tryouts, but we have had success with them in the past, and we are hoping for the same this year,” said Manager Von Hayes.

The Riversharks open their 10th Anniversary Season, presented by Wawa, on Thursday, April 22nd, on the road against the Newark Bears. The team will play their home opener at Campbell’s Field against the Bears on April 30th, 2010, at 7:05 PM. Individual and group tickets are now on sale, and can be purchased online at www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.

Colts To Host Tryouts

UNITED STATES – Ever been to a professional baseball game and thought “I could compete with these guys”, well now is your chance.

Attend the upcoming tryouts to become the next member of the San Angelo Colts Professional Baseball Team. One of the big advantages to independent baseball, is it allows teams to have the flavor of local players and ties to the town.

“Being able to have recognizable names, whether it is players from local high schools or Angelo State’s program helps make us truly a hometown team”, said Colts GM Mike Babcock

Players have made teams throughout the United League during tryouts like this.

Angelo State which is located right across the street from the ballpark really acts as a minor league system for San Angelo, which is where current Colts Ronnie Gaines and Chace Vacek came from.

[ad#Google Adsense 1]

“It is something truly great for the community. We are fortunate to have ASU play in our stadium, it is like having local tryouts all spring. The ones I can’t see though come to these tryouts to try to make the team, like last years success story Chandler Barnard,” said Colts Manager Doc Edwards.

“We signed him out of these tryouts, and he helped us win the regular season title. Fans here follow local players, and can still continue to watch the ones that make our club. That’s the way it was done in the old days and we continue that tradition today, gaining a bigger fan base because of it. That is how important these tryouts are,” added Edwards.

The San Angelo Colts will be holding there annual tryouts in the home of the Colts, Foster Field, on May 15, 2010. To try out you must register by 8:00 am that day, and the tryouts themselves will begin sharply at 9:00 am. If you pre-register the cost is $25. The day of the tryouts registration will be $30. There are no refunds once payment is made.
