Pakistan Wins 12th West Asia Baseball Cup


ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan recently wrapped up the 12th West Asia Baseball Cup with a perfect record and a title. It was Pakistan’s third straight title winning both the 10th and 11th edition of the biannual tournament.

Iran finished with the silver medal losing only to tournament champion Pakistan. Unranked India wound up with the bronze medal after defeating Iraq 20-0.

BaseballUnited.net Interviews Secretary General of Pakistan Baseball Federation


John Fitzgerald over at BaseballUnited.net is at it again. In the audio below he sits down to talk with Syed Khawar Shah who is the Secretary General of the Pakistan Baseball Federation and also the Executive Director of the West Asia Baseball Federation.

John and Syed talk about baseball in Pakistan who is set to host the West Asia Baseball Cup opening up today. Syed mentions how many players play the sport in Pakistan and it might surprise you.

The last part of the audio, John talks once again to Toma Irokawa, the manager of the Iran National Team. He will be taking his club to Pakistan to compete in the West Asia Baseball Cup.

Asia: 12th West Asia Baseball Cup Starts Today


The 12th West Asia Baseball Cup is set to start today in Islamabad, Pakistan. Put on by the Baseball Federation of Asia, five teams will compete for the title.

Pakistan, No. 24 in the world rankings, is the defending champion having won the 2013 edition of the tournament.

Also competing will be Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and India. Afghanistan ranks No. 35 in the world rankings while Iran is No. 49. Both Iraq and India are both unranked.

Pakistan 16U Youth Team Tours Japan

Combination of activities at grass roots level to promote baseball in West Asia brought a 16U baseball team from Pakistan to Japan for a friendly match with Junior High School players in Higashi Osaka on June 30.

Pakistan scored an only but valuable run in the 7th inning to the delight of all the 200 fans and supporters even though the game ended 18-1.

During their stay in Osaka, the Pakistani youth participated in cultural exchange programs and particularly enjoyed visiting Kyocera Dome to watch a professional ball game between Orix Buffaloes and Rakuten Eagles.

Among those who were instrumental in materializing the scheme were: Syed Khawar Shah, Executive Director West Asia Baseball Federation of Asia and Secretary General Pakistan Federation Baseball, Sujeewa Wijayanayake of Sri Lanka Baseball, and Yohei Kobayashi, President of Baseball in Nepal “Circle Laligurans”

Appointment of Syed Khawar Shah as BFA Executive Director for West Asia

The Baseball Federation of Asia (BFA) has appointed Mr. Khawar Shah as Executive Director of Baseball Development in the West Asia region by recognizing the value and indispensable function of Mr. Khawar Shah and Pakistan’s leading role in the West Asia Region for the development of Baseball in this region.

The position appointed is part of the Executive Committee of the Baseball Federation of Asia and requires that the appointee is present at all Executive Committee Meetings of the Baseball Federation of Asia.

Pakistan wins 10th West Asia Baseball Cup

LAHORE, March 28: Heroics efforts by pitchers Ihsanullah helped Pakistan to win the 10th West Asia Baseball Cup, after chalking-up a 4-1 win against Sri Lanka in the last league match at the Punjab Stadium here on Wednesday.

The crucial match, which was dominated by pitchers, Ihsanullah led Pakistan in this department in all the nine innings to solely perform the duty successfully as he conceded just one run to make the victory possible. The batters also did good efforts as they managed to score four runs, despite the fact the Sri Lankans were tough in both pitching and fielding.

But credit went to Ihsanullah who made the difference. Ihsanullah, who has imparted two months training in South Korea on scholarship sent down lethal deliveries as Sri Lankan batters remained on defensive.

There was no run scored in the first inning by either side. But Pakistan opened the account in the second inning when Farooq Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed collected one run each to take 2-0 lead for  the team. In the third inning, Pakistan earned one more run through Arslan as it seemed at that moment, the Pakistani batters would get runs frequently in the next innings.

But tight pitching by both sides, did not allow any team to score a run in the next two innings. However, the visitors got their first run in the 6th inning through Peries to reduce the lead 3-1. Again there was no run scored in the 7th inning, as Pakistan plundered its last run in the 8th inning through Asif Mushtaq to seal the fate of the match.

Pakistan remained unbeaten in the event thus it has qualified for the main round of the Asia Cup to be held later this year. Besides Pakistan and Sri Lanka, two other countries which participated were Iran and Afghanistan. Iran came in third while Afghanistan remained at bottom.

Deputy Speaker Punjab Assembly Rana Mashood was the chief guest and he distributed the prizes. He said the foreign teams must have enjoyed their stay in Pakistan. He said Pakistan was a safe country and its people wanted more international activities here and also announced Five Lac for Pakistan Team on behalf of Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shabaz Sharif ,  Mr.Yoo Daewoo Bus Express distribute the Silver Medals to SriLanka Team .D G sports Mr Usman Anwar , Khawar Shah Secretary General PFB,Mohsin Khan Vice President PFB,  Wasal Mohmmad Associate Secretary, Haider Khan Lahri Associate Secretary ,Fakhar Shah, Jamil Kamran Amer Bhatti of Federation Baseball were present.

President Pakistan Federation Baseball Mr. Shaukat Javed praised the efforts of the Pakistan team for earning the top position in the event he also announced award of  upees  Five Lac for team . He thanked all the foreign teams for visiting Pakistan and hoped they had enjoyed their stay here. He said Pakistan had gained good standing in the baseball in Asia and currently it was at the 5th place.

Pakistan Shuts Out Afghanistan on 2nd Day of West Asia Baseball Cup

LAHORE, March 24: A grand slam hit by Umair Bhatti was the significant performance in Pakistan another convincing 18-0 win in the 10th West-Asia Baseball Cup against Afghanistan at the Punjab Stadium here on Saturday.

Pakistan made an explosive start getting six runs in the first inning as their Arif Senior, Imtiaz Ali, Arshad Khan, Mohammad Asif, Iftikhar Ahmad all contributed one runs each, before Umair Bhatti earned the distinction of grand slam to make 6-0 lead of Pakistan.

In the second inning, Pakistan maintained their offensive game as while Afghanistan were failing to cope with the fine pitching of Pakistani pitchers Hafiz Usman and Ihsanullah, added five runs as Muhammad Arslan, Imtiaz Ali, Arshad, Farooq Khan and Asif all shared the scoring honours.

In the next inning, Pakistan collected five more runs one each through Muhammad Usman, Nasir Butt, Asif, Mussadiq Hanif and Imtiaz, who hit the home-run to increase the lead to 16-0.

The Pakistani batters, after establishing a big lead , showed complacency as they added one run each in the 4th and 5th inning. While Usman scored in the fourth inning, Asif made in the 5th inning to seal the fate of the match.

Overall, for Pakistan Asif remained top scorer with four runs, while Imtiaz contributed three runs. Arshad, Usman added two runs apiece. Iftikhar, Arif senior, Mussadiq Hanif, Nasir Butt, Umair Bhatti (grand slam), Farooq Khan and Arslan chipped in with one run each.Chief guest was Zardasht Shams Cultural Attache Embassy Of Islamic Republic Of Afghanistan

Sri Lanka will meet Iran on Sunday at 2.00pm.

Pakistan Crush Iran 11-0 in Opener of 10th West Asia Baseball Cup

LAHORE, March 23: Pakistan made a flying start in the 10th West-Asia Baseball Cup, crushing Iran in the opening match 11-0 at the Punjab Stadium here on Friday.

The Iran team, which was looking a strong and restricted Pakistan from scoring any run until Arshad Khan hit a home-run in the second inning, later failed to give significant resistance mainly due to the fine pitching of the Pakistani pitchers.

Pakistan earned their second run through Muhammad Asif in the third inning. In all Asif contributed three runs. Pakistan was more offensive in the fourth and fifth innings as they added five runs. While in the fourth inning, Asif and Iftikhar Ahmad contributed one run each, in the fifth inning Arshad , Farooq Khan and Asif added one run apiece as Pakistan were leading with a comfortable lead of 7-0 by the end of the fifth inning.

While Iran failed to response, the aggressive Pakistan team made one more run in the sixth inning through Arslan to take 8-0 lead. In the seventh inning, which proved the last of the match, Pakistan further added three runs through Sumair Zawar, Arif Senior and Arslan to win the match easily.

In the second match, Pakistan will take on Afghanistan on Saturday at 2.pm.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka team has also reached Lahore and took a round of the Punjab Stadium.

President Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Lt. Gen. Syed Arif Hasan inaugurated the event. Secretary POA Mr. Khalid Mahmood, president Pakistan Federation Baseball Mr. Shaukat Javed and secretary PFB Khawar Shah, Mohsin Khan Vice President Pakistan Federation Baseball, Haider Khan Lehri Associaate Secretary PFB, Wisal Khan Vice President Pakistan Federation Baseball, Muhammad Tahir & Ramazan Kasoori President and Secretary Islamabad Baseball Association, and other official of the Federation were also present on the occasion.

Pakistan wins 1st SAARC Baseball Cup

LAHORE: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 8-2 to win the First SAARC Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Sunday. Pakistan won gold as it won all of their matches played in the Tournament. Sri Lanka won silver while Afghanistan received the bronze medal.

Pakistan started their first inning with Imtiaz making a score. Sri Lankan batters failed to make any runs. In the second inning Pakistan couldn’t score any runs while Sri Lankan batters made two through Khosla and Timmuni. Sri Lnakn enjoyed the one-run lead till the end of the fourth inning. Pakistan batters however, composed themselves and clubbed Sri Lankan pitchers in the fifth inning in all corners of the ground. Pakistan made five scores. Hafiz Musaddaq hit a home run. Imtiaz, Arshad, Zaheer, Asif Mustaq also contributed with one run each.

Sri lankan batters could not make any score in rest of their innings amid very tight and accurate pitching by the home side pitcher team captain Pakistan Ihsanullah. Pakistan made one score in the sixth innng through Imtiaz and one more in the eighth through Asif to win the match by a lead of six runs.

At the closing ceremony Punjab Education and sports Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman gave away prizes amongst the players. He also announced, on behalf of the Punjab chief minister, a sum of Rs 1.5 million for the players and the officials and Rs. one million for the Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF). The PBF President Shaukat Javed and secretary General Khawar Shah were also present on the occasion.

Afghanistan beats Nepal on Day 5 of 1st SAARC Baseball Cup

LAHORE: Afghanistan beat Nepal 19-11 in an interesting encounter in the First SAARC Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Saturday. Both teams started their innings in aggressive way making scores. Afghanistan scored two runs. Mohammed Tahir and Mohammed Alam had one run each. Nepal, however, took lead as they made four runs through Rajesh, Gowinda, Sandeep and Aneel. Afghanistan batters bounced back in the second inning and made five runs. Tahir, Alam, Samiullah, Nasir and Fazal Malik made one score each. Afghan pitchers were also on the target and they did not allow Nepal batters to score.
Afghan continued with their onslaught in the third inning as well and put ten runs on the board. Samiullah and Fazal Malik had two runs each. Nasir, Akhtar, Tahir, Alam, Mohammed Sami and Abdul Rehman scored once. Nepal batters and pitchers performed better in the fourth inning. Their batters scored six times through Raniel, Baimen, Kishore and Sandeep who made one score each. Aneel made two scores. Nepal pitcher hardly gave any liberty to Afghan batters and only allowed them one run which was made by Abdul Rehman.

Both teams failed to get any score in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Nepal made one score through Aneel in the eighth inning while Afghan batters failed to score. In the decisive ninth inning Sher Jan from Afghans made one score which decided the match in their favor, Nepal batters failed to add any score in their total.

Iftikhar Ali Malik, vice-president SAARC Chambers of Commerce and Industries was the chief guest. Khawar Shah, Secretary General Pakistan Baseball Federation presented a souvenir  to the chief guest on the occasion.

Pakistan Shuts out Nepal on 3rd Day of 1st SAARC Cup

LAHORE: SAARC Baseball tournament is underway at Punjab stadium Lahore. Teams from Sri Lanka, Nepal, Afghanistan and host Pakistan are participating. Pakistan thrashed Nepal 21-0 in the First SAARC Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Thursday at the single round robin tournament.

The home team batters demonstrated excellent game, hitting Nepal pitchers to all corners of the field. In the first inning, Pakistan made five runs through Asif, Iftikhar and Imtiaz. Arshad hit a home run. In the second inning Nepal pitchers performed well and did not allow Pakistan to score. Pakistani batters made four runs in the third inning. Umair Bhatti, Musaddaq, Asif and Imtiaz had one score each.

The home side batters clobbered Nepali pitchers in the fifth inning with twelve runs. Sumair, Arif and Asif crossed the plate twice. Iftikhar scored two runs including one through a home run. However, Imtiaz was the best performer of the inning. He had two runs with one grand slam home run.

Nepali batters could not survive against the accurate pitching of home pitchers which were always on target. In all innings Nepali batters failed to make any score.  Mr. Park Seong Jun Korean Chief umpire declared the match finished due to score difference.

Mrs. Fahmida Mushtaq, Director General Sports Board Punjab was the chief guest. Pakistan Baseball Federation Secretary General Khawar Shah was also present on the occasion. On Friday Sri Lanka will play against Afghanistan 3.00 pm at Punjab stadium.

Pakistan: South Asian Baseball Federation elects President and Secretary General

It appears that a new Baseball Federation has been formed through the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

Shaukat Javed and Khawae Shah elected as president and secretary general of SAARC Baseball Federation

The tentative date of 1st SAARC Baseball Cup i.e 7th to 12th April 2011 was approved by all the members. Pakistan will act as host for the 1st SAARC Baseball Cup which will be held at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
