Rouen Drops First Game in French Division 1

Paris UC defeated RouenParis UC defeated Rouen giving the Huskies their first loss of the year in the French Division 1 League. Rouen had gone 21-0 before the 4-2 loss in Game 2 of the weekend series last Sunday. Paris currently sits in 5th place in the league with a record of 8-14.

While it might not be shocking that Rouen finally dropped a game, it might be a bit of a shock that it came from Paris. Rouen is not perfect on the year having lost in the European Champions Cup and the Challenge de France earlier in the year. They are however the odds on favorite to repeat once again for the title in France.

In other league action Senart stayed in second place with a weekend sweep against Saint-Just-Saint-Rambert Ducks. Montpellier also was perfect over the weekend solidifying its spot in 3rd with a pair of wins over Montigny. Senart and Montpellier will face off with one another this coming Sunday.

Rouen looks to rebound in a big way coming off its lone loss of the season. They will face off with the 7th place Clermont.

Can Rouen win the French Baseball Division 1 title?

Will anyone challenge Rouen in the French Baseball Division 1 League this year? So far everything is leading to a resounding no. With four weeks left in the regular season, Rouen is a perfect 20-0.

However, there is a chance that Rouen could be upset as they were early in the year in the Challenge de France.Rouen rolled through the first two rounds outscoring its opponents 36-5. But they ran into the eventual champions in the semifinals when they faced off with the Senart Templiers.

Senart would down Rouen 9-4 in the semis before going on to defeat the MUC Barracudas in the championship.

Senart sits in 2nd place so far this season with a 15-5 record. While they pose a potential problem for Rouen, it currently looks like it will be a tough road.

Shortly after winning the Challenge de France, Senart was once again facing off with Rouen, this time at home. Senart played Rouen close but lost both games by scores of 1-4 and 5-6. They will get another shot at Rouen the last week of the season just before the playoffs.

The Templiars are the last team to win a title other than Rouen, which took home titles from 2005-2013 and 2015-2016. They have been the most dominate team in the league over the past few decades, and so far this year they have continued that dominance. Their players litter the league leader boards in both offense and pitching categories. So far they have had one hiccup in the Challenge de France and have even fared decently in international competitions.

European Champions Cup 2017

Recently they took part in the European Champions Cup in Regensburg, Germany. While they would finish with a 2-2 record, they had a pair of nice wins over some German opponents (Mainz and Regensburg). However, they lost pretty badly to the teams that would play for the championship in Unipol Bologna and champion Curaçao Neptunus.

So who will take home the title? Will Rouen continue its dominance or can the Templiars or Barracudas rise up and take the championship away from the 2-time defending champs?

France: Division 1 Schedule and Standings

With six weeks in the book so far in the French Division 1 season, the Senart Templiers are out in front of the standings at 12-0 after a weekend sweep of the Cubs last weekend. Right on the Templiers tail are the ever powerful Rouen Huskies who sit at 11-1 setting up a showdown this next weekend of the top two teams in the division.

The lone loss for the Huskies came in Week 6 with a 4-3 loss in Game 1 of their series with the Montpellier Barracudas. The Barracudas are the only other team in the league that are over .500 as they sit in third place at 8-4.

Senart will travel to Rouen this weekend in hopes of stretching their lead in the division. Montpellier will face off with Clermont at home hoping to push Clermont under .500 and move closer to one of the top two teams.

Both Rouen and Senart are getting it done on both sides of the ball. Rouen leads the league in both hitting at a .330 clip and ERA at just 1.60.
