50 Baseball Things to do by Age 50

Years ago when I was living in South Korea I came up with a list of 40 things I want to do by age 40. Well now that I am past age 40, I got to thinking tonight of a baseball version of 50 by 50. So here are 50 things/places I want to go before I turn 50.

I have broken them down into different groups in order to put better meaning to it. For instance, I grouped all of the college teams I want to see together. However, for the MLB I simply want to see 10 new stadiums and I chose the ones that I think are most likely to be the next 10.

By listing a team I want to see, I mean I want to go to their home stadium to see them. These are in no particular order.

So here it goes:

College Teams I want to see:

  1. Texas Tech
  2. Rice
  3. Houston
  4. Texas State
  5. Dallas Baptist
  6. Sam Houston
  7. UTSA
  8. Baylor
  9. TCU
  10. Temple College – an alma mater of mine (juco)

Major League Stadiums:

  1. New York Yankees
  2. Kansas City Royals
  3. Atlanta Braves
  4. Miami Marlins
  5. Pittsburgh Pirates
  6. Cincinnati Reds
  7. Milwaukee Brewers
  8. Minnesota Twins
  9. Baltimore Orioles
  10. Philadelphia Phillies

Foreign countries I want to watch a game in:

  1. Germany
  2. Poland
  3. Czech Republic
  4. Austria
  5. Italy
  6. Belgium
  7. Netherlands
  8. France
  9. Switzerland
  10. Puerto Rico – ok this one is a more of a territory

Random tournaments, museums, or special games:

  1. AA All-Star Game
  2. AAA All-Star Game
  3. A All-Star Game
  4. Prague Baseball Week
  5. Haarlem Honkbal Week
  6. World Port Tournament
  7. Minnesota Townball game
  8. WBC Game
  9. Spring Training
  10. Field of Dreams
  11. Negro Leagues Hall of Fame
  12. Texas State High School Championships
  13. European Championship Qualifier/B-Pool
  14. European Champions Cup
  15. Federations Cup

Minor League Teams:

  1. Corpus Christi Hooks
  2. Midland Rockhounds
  3. El Paso Chihuahuas
  4. Amarillo – moving to town in 2019
  5. Oklahoma City Dodgers

So there is my list of 50 things I want to do by age 50. I think I can clear at least 9 of them this year. It may be a stretch to get to all of them in the next almost a decade. It is doable however. Especially since I have most of the summer off.

What are some places you’d like to see that deal with baseball?

Can Rouen win the French Baseball Division 1 title?

Will anyone challenge Rouen in the French Baseball Division 1 League this year? So far everything is leading to a resounding no. With four weeks left in the regular season, Rouen is a perfect 20-0.

However, there is a chance that Rouen could be upset as they were early in the year in the Challenge de France.Rouen rolled through the first two rounds outscoring its opponents 36-5. But they ran into the eventual champions in the semifinals when they faced off with the Senart Templiers.

Senart would down Rouen 9-4 in the semis before going on to defeat the MUC Barracudas in the championship.

Senart sits in 2nd place so far this season with a 15-5 record. While they pose a potential problem for Rouen, it currently looks like it will be a tough road.

Shortly after winning the Challenge de France, Senart was once again facing off with Rouen, this time at home. Senart played Rouen close but lost both games by scores of 1-4 and 5-6. They will get another shot at Rouen the last week of the season just before the playoffs.

The Templiars are the last team to win a title other than Rouen, which took home titles from 2005-2013 and 2015-2016. They have been the most dominate team in the league over the past few decades, and so far this year they have continued that dominance. Their players litter the league leader boards in both offense and pitching categories. So far they have had one hiccup in the Challenge de France and have even fared decently in international competitions.

European Champions Cup 2017

Recently they took part in the European Champions Cup in Regensburg, Germany. While they would finish with a 2-2 record, they had a pair of nice wins over some German opponents (Mainz and Regensburg). However, they lost pretty badly to the teams that would play for the championship in Unipol Bologna and champion Curaçao Neptunus.

So who will take home the title? Will Rouen continue its dominance or can the Templiars or Barracudas rise up and take the championship away from the 2-time defending champs?
