Germany: Teams Announced for 2015 Buchbinder Cup


The teams were announced for the 2015 Buchbinder Cup. The sixth edition of the tournament to take place in Regensburg will include the host Legionaere and two other German Bundesliga teams. Accepting an invitation from Germany are the Paderborn Untouchables and the Bonn Capitals.  Also accepting an invitation from the Czech Extraleague are the Arrows Ostrava.

The tournament will take place between May 23-25 at Armin Wolf Arena in Regensburg.

In the 2014 edition of the tournament, the Untouchables lost out to the Heidenheim Heideköpfe in an exciting championship game 15-14.

Regensburg Legionaere Wins 2012 Buchbinder Cup


GERMANY – The Regensburg Legionaere disposed of the Bonn Capitals 7-2 Monday to win the 2012 Buchbinder Cup invitational baseball tournament at the Armin-Wolf Arena at Regensburg.

Regensburg (3-0) tagged Bonn starter Bronson Olson for a run in the opening frame to grab a quick lead. The score remained unchanged until the sixth when the visiting Capitals took a surprising 2-1 lead.

Bonn slugger Daniel Lamb-Hunt knotted the score at 1-all before Texas native Jonathan Marshall motored home on a wild pitch to silence a partisan crowd of 900-plus mostly Legionaere supporters.

Skipper Martin Helmig’s talented squad answered back in grand fashion an inning later. Ludwig Glaser and Chris Howard delivered back-breaking hits off Bonn reliever Yannis Theissen to spark a six-run frame and clinch the tournament title for the host team for the second straight year.

Buchbinder Legionaere Win 2011 Buchbinder Cup


REGENSBURG – The Buchbinder Legionaere defeated the Solingen Alligators in the championship of the 2011 Buchbinder Cup.

In front of 920 fans, who stuck around after a 35 minute rain delay in the middle of the 5th inning, the Legionaere defeated the Alligators 8-1. Buchbinder led 3-0 when the rains came. The Legionaere, after scoring 3 in the 2nd inning, scored to more in the 5th and 3 more in the 6th to put the game away.

The Alligators score one in the 7th to keep from getting shutout. Their pitching game up 12 hits to the Legionaere and might have run out of gas having defeated Paderborn earlier in the day. It was a nice showing for Solingen after a European Cup Qualifier title earlier in the month.

2011 Buchbinder Cup: Solingen and Buchbinder Face Off in Finals


REGENSBURG, GERMANY: The Paderborn Untouchables will not defend their title in the 2011 Buchbinder Cup. After losing their first game of the tournament to the host Buchbinder 4-0, Paderborn had to take the loser’s bracket route back to the finals.

Solingen Alligators, fresh off their European Cup Qualifier title, defeated the Bonn Capitals on the first day to advance to play Buchbinder for a chance at the finals.

Day two saw the first team eliminated in the Bonn Capitals who lost their 2nd game this time to Paderborn. With the win Paderborn kept its chance alive to defend its title setting up a game with the loser of the Solingen/Buchbinder game.

The Legionaere would take down Solingen 8-2 to advance to the finals. The loss sent Solingen to the loser’s bracket and a game facing elimination. But they would come up big again with a win over Paderborn knocking the Untouchables out of the tournament.

Dustin Hughes put Solingen on top in the first 3-0 with a 3 run blast. Hughes would drive in another run in the 4th putting Solingen up 4-0. They wouldn’t look back. Paderborn finally got on the board in the 5th scoring 2 runs to make it 4-2. Solingen would answer with a run of its own in the 5th to take a 5-2 lead. In the 6th, Solingen put the game away with 3 runs to make it 8-2. Paderborn would get 2 in the 8th, but it wasn’t enough.

The win puts Solingen in the finals against the Buchbinder Legionaere.

2011 Buchbinder Cup Schedule


GERMANY – The 2nd annual Buchbinder Cup invitational tournament will take place from June 11-13 at the Armin-Wolf-Arena in Regensburg. The tourney, sponsored by Buchbinder – Rent A Car, has €1,500 in prize money.

The reigning German champion Buchbinder Legionaere (13-3) will be joined by a trio of North Division squads, the Paderborn Untouchables (17-1), Bonn Capitals (13-5) and the Solingen Alligators (11-5).

Paderborn Wins Buchbinder Cup


GERMANY – The Paderborn Untouchables slipped past the HSV Stealers 2-1 Monday to win the inaugural Buchbinder Cup at the Armin Wolf Arena in Regensburg. The Untouchables finished the round-robin format with an unblemished 3-0 record to win the trophy and €1,500 cash prize.

The tournament host pounded the Heidenheim Heidekopfe 12-2 in Monday’s finale to finish in second place with a 2-1 card. The Heidekopfe (1-2) settled for third-place while the Stealers trailed the pack with an 0-3 mark.

Legionäre Tops HSV In Buchbinder Cup


GERMANY – The Buchbinder Legionäre (Regensburg) toppled the HSV Stealers 9-2 Saturday at the inaugural Buchbinder Cup invitational tournament at the Armin Wolf Arena in Regensburg. In the first game of the four-team event, the Paderborn Untouchables knocked off the Heidenheim Heideköpfe, 4-1.

Regensburg (1-0) took control of the game with a four-run fourth, and added two more scores in the third to distance itself from the Stealers (0-1). Buchbinder starter Rene Herlitzius worked six solid frames to earn the win. Second baseman Richard Klijn made his pitching debut allowing just one run in three relief innings.

Paderborn (1-0) got a strong outing by Eugen Heilmann to beat Heidenheim (0-1) and set the stage for Sunday’s clash with the Legionäre. Eugen Heilmann tossed a complete game five-hitter and American import Dennis Kelly put the finishing touches on the win with a sixth-inning solo home run.
