Afghanistan Disqualified from 12th West Asia Baseball Cup


Originally it was announced that Afghanistan would compete in the 12th West Asia Baseball Cup held this week in Pakistan. However, the team is not participating.

We have received word from a member of the Pakistan Federation Baseball that the team did in fact show up to play but did not bring the required documentation for its players and thus was disqualified.

So the five team tournament has gone to four.

Asia: 12th West Asia Baseball Cup Starts Today


The 12th West Asia Baseball Cup is set to start today in Islamabad, Pakistan. Put on by the Baseball Federation of Asia, five teams will compete for the title.

Pakistan, No. 24 in the world rankings, is the defending champion having won the 2013 edition of the tournament.

Also competing will be Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and India. Afghanistan ranks No. 35 in the world rankings while Iran is No. 49. Both Iraq and India are both unranked.

Pakistan wins 1st SAARC Baseball Cup

LAHORE: Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 8-2 to win the First SAARC Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Sunday. Pakistan won gold as it won all of their matches played in the Tournament. Sri Lanka won silver while Afghanistan received the bronze medal.

Pakistan started their first inning with Imtiaz making a score. Sri Lankan batters failed to make any runs. In the second inning Pakistan couldn’t score any runs while Sri Lankan batters made two through Khosla and Timmuni. Sri Lnakn enjoyed the one-run lead till the end of the fourth inning. Pakistan batters however, composed themselves and clubbed Sri Lankan pitchers in the fifth inning in all corners of the ground. Pakistan made five scores. Hafiz Musaddaq hit a home run. Imtiaz, Arshad, Zaheer, Asif Mustaq also contributed with one run each.

Sri lankan batters could not make any score in rest of their innings amid very tight and accurate pitching by the home side pitcher team captain Pakistan Ihsanullah. Pakistan made one score in the sixth innng through Imtiaz and one more in the eighth through Asif to win the match by a lead of six runs.

At the closing ceremony Punjab Education and sports Minister Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman gave away prizes amongst the players. He also announced, on behalf of the Punjab chief minister, a sum of Rs 1.5 million for the players and the officials and Rs. one million for the Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF). The PBF President Shaukat Javed and secretary General Khawar Shah were also present on the occasion.

Afghanistan beats Nepal on Day 5 of 1st SAARC Baseball Cup

LAHORE: Afghanistan beat Nepal 19-11 in an interesting encounter in the First SAARC Baseball Cup at the Punjab Stadium here on Saturday. Both teams started their innings in aggressive way making scores. Afghanistan scored two runs. Mohammed Tahir and Mohammed Alam had one run each. Nepal, however, took lead as they made four runs through Rajesh, Gowinda, Sandeep and Aneel. Afghanistan batters bounced back in the second inning and made five runs. Tahir, Alam, Samiullah, Nasir and Fazal Malik made one score each. Afghan pitchers were also on the target and they did not allow Nepal batters to score.
Afghan continued with their onslaught in the third inning as well and put ten runs on the board. Samiullah and Fazal Malik had two runs each. Nasir, Akhtar, Tahir, Alam, Mohammed Sami and Abdul Rehman scored once. Nepal batters and pitchers performed better in the fourth inning. Their batters scored six times through Raniel, Baimen, Kishore and Sandeep who made one score each. Aneel made two scores. Nepal pitcher hardly gave any liberty to Afghan batters and only allowed them one run which was made by Abdul Rehman.

Both teams failed to get any score in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Nepal made one score through Aneel in the eighth inning while Afghan batters failed to score. In the decisive ninth inning Sher Jan from Afghans made one score which decided the match in their favor, Nepal batters failed to add any score in their total.

Iftikhar Ali Malik, vice-president SAARC Chambers of Commerce and Industries was the chief guest. Khawar Shah, Secretary General Pakistan Baseball Federation presented a souvenir  to the chief guest on the occasion.

Sri Lanka shuts out Afghanistan on 4th Day of 1st SAARC Baseball Cup 2011

LAHORE: Sri Lanka beat Afghanistan 15-0 in the First SAARC Baseball Cup match at the Punjab Stadium here on Friday.

Both teams started the proceedings of their first inning cautiously and failed to get any score. Sri Lankan batters, however, opened their account in the second inning scoring two runs through Iresh and Abeysooriya. Afghanistan batters were completely subdued by the Sri Lankan pitchers in their second inning.

Lankan batters put four runs on the board in their third inning. Mahathanthila, Perara, Iresh and Mannauium made one score each. In the fourth inning they added six more runs to their total. Nabeen, Samera, Khosla, Nelanka, Saajeela and Mannauium made one score each. Sri Lankan batters made one score in their fifth inning through Eampiya. Supun and Krishna added two more scores in the sixth taking the total to 15.

Afghanistan failed to score in all of their seven innings as Sri Lankan pitchers maintained accuracy and aggression throughout the match. The game was declared finished afterwards to 15 runs difference.

At the end of match Col Shujaat, Senior vice-president Pakistan Baseball Federation (PBF) chief guest was presented a souvenir by Khawar Shah, secretary general of PBF.

The Pakistan Federation Baseball is trying hard to provide an international Sporting event in order to bring the country back on world sports map and to provide healthy sports event to sports loving Pakistanis. Saturday’s match will be between Afghanistan and Nepal at 3.00 pm at Punjab Stadium
