Charities

BaseballdeWorld and the Cambanac Youth Mission join together to help impoverished children in the Cambanac/Baclayon mountains on Bohol Isand, Philippines.

The residents of the Cambanac/Baclayon areas are mostly small farmers who grow vegetables to sell at the weekly market. The area is best-known for the quality of their ube, a purple variety of sweet potato. A large number of the people also raises chickens goats, pigs and cows which are also sold at the market each Wednesday.

Approximately 75 percent of residents live in wooden or bamboo housing, and six out of 10 families do not have electricity. Homemade kerosene lamps are the main light source in the evening and wood is used to do the cooking. Rice, fish, canned sardines and instant noodles are the main meals 2-3 times weekly while soup made from buko (young coconuts), corn, tree leaves and dried fish minnows is a popular dish because of its low cost.

The Cambanac Youth Mission offers a variety of projects and programs aimed at improving the lives of some of the poorest kids in SE Asia.
