Every season you see hundreds if not thousands of people predicting how the season will end and who will be the new World Series champion. I too like to get in on the fun even though I’ve never been good at it.
So I thought it would be fun to see just how bad my predictions have been so far.
Here were my predictions for 2013.
AL East – I obviously bought into the Blue Jays and fell hook line and sinker, like so may Jays fans, that they would be good this year. I completely underestimated the Yankees, but that is more because I always root for them to finish last. Tampa Bay and Baltimore are right about where I thought they’d be which is a nice surprise.
1. Toronto Blue Jays
2. Tampa Bay Rays
3. Baltimore Orioles
4. Boston Red Sox
5. New York Yankees
AL Central – This might be the easiest to predict. Detroit is easily the cream of the crop here and other than the final two teams, so far I have them in the right order.
1. Detroit Tigers
2. Cleveland Indians
3. Kansas City Royals
4. Chicago White Sox
5. Minnesota Twins
AL West – I, like so many, underestimated the A’s and gave the Angels too much credit. As I did with the Rangers. Hit by injuries and suspensions they have not been as good as they should have, but “that’s how baseball go”.
1. Texas Rangers
2. Anaheim Angels
3. Oakland A’s
4. Seattle Mariners
5. Houston Astros
American League Wild Card – Looks like I might get half of it right, but there is still a lot of baseball left and Tampa Bay could drop.
1. Tampa Bay Rays
2. Anaheim Angles
A lot of people have the Detroit Tigers winning the A.L. this year, but I am going to go with the Texas Rangers. I know I am a fan, but I also think the young guys come up and really help put this team back into the World Series.
I drank the Rangers cool-aid. While they could still win the A.L. at this point its not likely.
Now for the National League
NL East – I really thought the Nationals would be much better than they have been this year. They have really turned it on of late and could still make the playoffs though. I always want to predict the Braves finishing first because they are my favorite team, but the one year I try to be more open they win the division. Go figure.
1. Washington Nationals
2. Atlanta Braves
3. Philadelphia Philies
4. New York Mets
5. Miami Marlins
NL Central – This race is still open, but the Reds have a hill to climb to win the division. And let’s be honest, the Pirates haven’t had a winning record in 20 years so not many saw them doing what they are doing. If you did, I tip my hat to you.
1. Cincinnati Reds
2. St. Louis Cardinals
3. Milwaukee Brewers
4. Pittsburgh Pirates
5. Chicago Cubs
NL West – I thought San Francisco would be better, but like the Tigers I felt this was the Dodgers division to lose.
1. Los Angeles Dodgers
2. San Francisco Giants
3. Arizona Diamondbacks
4. San Diego Padres
5. Colorado Rockies
National League Wild Card – While I might not get either team, at least one of them will make the playoffs.
1. Atlanta Braves
2. San Francisco Giants
National League Champion – Washington Nationals
I see a Washington/Texas World Series with Texas finally getting their first title behind a strong year from Yu Darvish and the emergence of both Jurickson Profar and Mike Olt.
While it still could be a Washington/Texas World Series, I really don’t see that happening. Mainly because I don’t see the Rangers getting that far. If Washington makes the playoffs, they just might. They are hot and could be very dangerous in the playoffs.
While it was a lot of fun, I didn’t do very well which is pretty much the story of my life. This is done more so in fun than anything else and just because I might not have done very well this year, I’ll try again next year.
Did you predict the 2013 season? How have your predictions done so far?
