2017 World Port Tournament Schedule

The 2017 edition of the World Port Tournament is almost upon us. Five teams will compete for the title including Cuba, Curacao, Chinese Taipei, Japan, and host Netherlands. The tournament starts on July 1 as Cuba will look to defend its title once again.

Each team will play the other four teams in pool play before the playoff round begins based on the seeding from pool play.

Historically the Netherlands and Cuba have dominated the tournament. Cuba has won the most medals (13) and golds (9) over the course of the history of the tournament. The Dutch rank second in medals (12) and tied for second in golds (2). The last two editions of the tournament has seen Cuba defeat the Netherlands in the championship. Over the last ten additions of the event Cuba has been in the championship each time, winning eight of those.

The Dutch will field a lot of names that more and more people have become familiar with over the course of the past decade. Pitchers included Diego Markwell, Rob Cordemans, Loek Van Mil, Mike Bolsenbroek, and others that have a lot of international experience, including the World Baseball Classic.
