Brisbane faced Melbourne in ABL Championship

The Brisbane Bandits and the Melbourne Aces will face off with one another next weekend in the ABL Championship in Melbourne. Brisbane is looking to repeat as champions, while Melbourne is looking for its first title in only its second trip to the finals.

After splitting the first two games with Adelaide, Brisbane’s bats came to life in Game 3. The Bandits pounded out 23 hits en route to an 18-2 stomping of the Bite. However, the game was closer than that most of the way.

Heading into the 7th inning it was only 4-1. Then the Bandits exploded for 6 in the 7th and 8 more in the 8th to run away with the game. Catcher Ryan Battaglia hit his second home run of the game in the 7th for Brisbane, a grand slam. Logan Wade added a 2-run shot of his own in the 7th.

But the biggest performance came in the 8th inning. Mitch Nilsson homered twice in the inning. The first was a solo shot to lead off the inning, which was followed by a back-to-back shot by David Rodriguez. Nilsson came up later on in the inning with 2 on and 2 out hitting his second of the night.

Lost in the shuffle of the late inning Brisbane run were Stefan Welch and Jordan McArdle home runs for Adelaide.

Rick Teasley picked up the win for Brisbane going 7.0 strong innings. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits and struck out 9.

Brisbane now travels to Melbourne to defend its title.
