The Italian Baseball League (IBL) kicked off the 2015 season this past weekend. Seven teams are looking to dethrone Unipol Bologna after they claimed the 2014 title. Bologna got off to a slow start losing game one of the season to Tommasin Padova.
Both T&A San Marino and Rimini swept their series to start off the season. But perhaps the best series was between Parma and the Godo Knights who split. Game 1 went an extra frame with both teams scoring, but in the end it was a walk-off win for Parma on a Claudio Biagini RBI single.
Game 2 of the series was just as close, but this time the Knights would prevail winning 2-1. The Knights were backed by a solid start from Matteo Galeotti who tossed seven innings giving up just one unearned run on three hits. Nicolo Loardi pitched the final two outs of the game to pick up the save. All of the Knights offense came in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Adolfo Gomez.
In other league action:
Guillermo Rodriguez had a strong second game for Bologna hitting a two-run home run going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Alessandro Vaglio also had a big day at the plate for Bologna going 2-for-5 with three RBI and scored four times.
Massimiliano Satori had a big game leading Tommasin Padova to a win over defending champ Bologna in Game 1 of hte year. He hit a grand slam, drove in five runs, and went 2-for-3 in the win.
