March 17, 1871

The National Association of Professional Base Ball Players is founding setting the stage for the National League of Professional Baseball Clubs or the National League.

Several of the NAPBBP teams would eventually make their way into the N.L. including the Boston Red Stockings which would eventually turn into the Atlanta Braves.

March 17, 1978

For the St. Patrick’s Day exhibition game, the Cincinnati Reds wear green uniforms rather than the traditional red. This starts an annual tradition and other teams soon follow suit.
