Ted Williams turns down an offer of $500,000 to play in Mexico. Instead, he wins the first of his two A.L. MVPs batting .342 with 38 home runs and 123 RBI.
That year he led the league in runs, walks, on base percentage, and slugging percentage. It was his first season back after three years of military service.
