The Pecos League has been in existence since 2011 and some teams have bounced around from city to city. The Raton Osos started out as the Ruidoso Osos in the league’s inaugural season of 2011. A year later the Ruidoso team was gone. The Osos were reborn in 2013 in Raton. Over the next two seasons they went a combined 36-92. Earlier this year an interesting article was posted to the website of KRTN Radio out of Raton and included parts from the city’s parks and recreation director.
This article gives a little insight into how some independent league teams are run and the hardships that they can come across. It does not appear, and it is still up in the air, that the Osos will return to Raton. It will be interesting to see where the team moves next or if some sort of agreement can be made to keep the team in Raton.
