Hosting rights for some of the upcoming youth Baseball World Cups were announced recently. The WBSC’s International Baseball executives announced the hosts in Prague, Czech Republic.
The 21U Baseball World Cup will debut later this year and it will be hosted by Taichung, Chinese Taipei. Taichung was host to the 18U BWC in 2013. Twelve countries will participate in the inaugural event from November 7-16.
The executives also voted to include a limited number of 23U players for the initial tournament. Each national team will have the option to use up to three players in a game at a time.
Japan was chosen to host the next 18U Baseball World Cup to take place in 2015. Koshien Stadium, which is known was the “Mecca of Japanese Baseball”, will be the centerpiece for the tournament. Home of the Hanshin Tigers, Koshien Stadium is Japan’s oldest ballpark having been built in 1924.
The 2017 18U Baseball World Cup was granted to Canada. Canada hosted the event in 2010 in Thunder Bay, so it is not new to hosting these big international events.
Events to be held later in 2014 include the 21U Baseball World Cup in Taichung, 15U in La Paz, Mexico, and the Women’s Baseball World Cup to take place in Japan.
