France: Rouen Huskies Win Title Yet Again

The Rouen Huskies continue to dominate the French Division I League winning their 10th championship in the past 11 years.

However, it wasn’t an easy road for the Huskies this time around. In the finals Rouen faced off with the Senart Templiers who put up a fight. Senart actually held a 2-games-to-1 lead in the series needing just one more victory to win the title. But it wasn’t to be.

After Rouen and Senart split the first two games, the series shifted to Rouen where Senart immediately won the first game to take a 2-1 lead in the series.

Leonel Cespedes pitched a great game to give Senart the lead in the series. Cespedes pitched eight shutout innings allowing just eight hits. He out dueled Owen Ozanich who picked up the Game 1 win for Rouen.

Rolando Betancourt drove in a pair of runs going 2-for-4 for Senart to led the offense. He finished the playoffs with a .351 average, second on the team.

Jose Rodriguez came back to tie up the series pitching Rouen to the win. He tossed a complete game allowing three runs on just five hits.

One of those hits was a three run home run from Rolando Betancourt for Senart who were trailing 7-0 at the time.

Boris Marche helped out the Rouen offense going 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI.

Rouen clinched the series and the title with a Game 5 victory behind a complete game win from Yoann Vaugelade.

Vaugelade gave up just two runs (one earned) on eight hits shutting down the Senart offense in the winner-take-all game. It was his only start in the playoffs, and it was a big one. He became the youngest MVP at just 18 years and 2 days after his complete game win in the deciding game.

Joris Bert set the tone for the offense from the lead off spot. Bert went 2-for-4 and knocked in three runs for Rouen.

Rouen fell behind 2-0 in the game, but then exploded for four runs in the fourth inning which was all they needed to clinch yet another title.
