In what was a senseless and uncalled for incident, three young men shot and killed Australian baseball player Chris Lane. Lane was just 22.
Lane was in Duncan, Oklahoma last Friday afternoon visiting his girlfriend and her family. He was out for a run on the streets of Duncan when he passed a house with three boys sitting on the porch. The boys then decided Lane would be their target and followed him in a car in order to shot him.
Why did they do it? They said they were bored.
The kids, and I do mean kids as the oldest was only 17, were in what was called a “wanna be gang”. Earlier they had killed an animal and stepped up their murder to people when they saw Lane jogging by.
Lane, a student from Melbourne, was attending college in the US on a scholarship at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. Lane was entering his senior year at the university where he started at catcher for 14 games last season.
Lane’s former club team in Australia is holding a memorial game this Sunday August 25th.
