France: Paris and Montpellier Advance in Division I Playoffs

The French Division I Playoffs kicked off this past weekend. Paris UC faced off with the Savigny Lions with the series going the max three games. In the other series, Montpellier took on Beaucaire. The winners would take on the top two finishers from the regular season in Rouen and Senart.

James Murrey pitched well for Paris in Game 1 of the series to help them take a 1-0 lead. Murrey tossed seven innings giving up just three runs. Frederic Mouchet finished off the game pitching two hitless innings to earn the save.

Delvin Sanders went 3-for-4 for Paris, while Mouchet drove in a pair of runs.

Pierrick Lemestre (3-for-4) led Savigny offensively driving in two runs with a double in the seventh inning.

Game 2 was tied 3-3 heading into the tenth inning when Pairs scored two in the top half of the tenth. However, Pierrick Lemestre came through big for Savigny. He was the hero of the day pitching all ten innings to earn the win, and driving in the winning runs in the tenth inning.

Lemestre went ten innings giving up five runs, with only one earned, while striking out eight on the hill. At the plate he went 2-for-4 with three RBI including a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to even the series at one game apiece.

Douglas Rodriguez had a nice game for Paris at the plate going 3-for-4 driving in three runs.

Game 3 would decide who would advance to the next round and it took a late game comeback from Paris to pull out the win.

Pairs had a 5-3 lead heading into the eighth inning when Savigny broke out with three runs to take a 6-5 lead. The tying runs came across on a two-run single by Romain Martinez (2-for-4). They would pick up another run via an error to take the lead late in the game.

Gedeon Costes couldn’t hold onto the lead for Savigny though. He pitched four innings giving up four runs including three in the bottom of the eighth.

After getting two quick outs in the bottom of the eighth, Paris loaded the bases on a walk, a double, and an intentional walk. Then the tying run came on a balk by Savigny pitcher Costes. That was followed by an Enrique Trinidad (2-for-4) two-run double to give Paris the lead and eventually the win.

Keiran Mattison pitched the ninth to earn the save an send Pairs to the next round.

Montpellier came through with a sweep of Beaucaire easily winning both games of the series.

Game 1 was dominated by Montpellier stater Will Musson who tossed a complete game shutout. He gave up just four hits and struck out eleven in the win. Musson also had a hit and drove in a run at the plate.

Game 2 wasn’t much different than the first. Montpellier worked up an 8-0 lead late in the game before Beaucaire came through with a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Laurent Andrades tossed a good game for Montpellier. He went six shutout innings giving up just three hits to earn the win.

Offensively, Theo Foulongne (1-for-3) scored a pair of runs and drove in two more to help Montpellier to the win.

Gabriel Sandersius (4-for-4) had a great day at the plate for Beaucaire but didn’t get much help.

In the next round, Montpellier will take on the Rouen Huskies, while Paris UC will face Senart.
