2014 European Championship First Round to be Played in Germany and the Czech Republic

The 2014 European Championship will be hosted by two countries. The Czech Baseball Association has announced an agreement with the Regensburg Buchbinder Leagionaere to host a first round group at Armin-Wolf-Arena. Joining Regensburg, Germany will be two Czech cities in hosting the event. Once Czech city will host the other first round while the last will host the final round.

In the running for the two Czech cities are Prague, Brno, Trebic, and Ostrava.

The tournament will be played next September starting with two groups. Group A will feature Greece, Czech Republic, Spain, Russia, Croatia, and the Netherlands. This group will play the first round in a Czech city.

Group B will be played in Regensburg and will feature France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Great Britain, and Sweden.

Both Great Britain and Russia won the B-Level Championship earlier this year to qualify for next year’s tournament. Italy will look to defend its title from 2012. Italy has won the previous two titles and ranks second only to the Netherlands in total medals and gold medals.
