Spain: League Scores, Highlights and Standings

Week 15 is in the books for the Spanish Division de Honor with the Tenerife Marlins keeping the top spot in the standings after a weekend sweep. CBS Sant Boi is making a charge to earn a top spot in the playoffs by sweeping CB Barcelona over the weekend.

In other action, the Valencia Astros swept CD Pamplona and San Inazio Bilbao swept El Llano BC in their two-game set.

The biggest series over the weekend was between CB Barcelona and CBS Sant Boi. With the sweep, Sant Boi is now tied with Barcelona being just three games back of first place. However, Barcelona still has the edge winning percentage wise having lost one less game.

Game 1 was a gem as both pitchers pitched great going the distance. Zael Honora picked up the win by not allowing a run. He gave up just three hits and struck out eleven. He improved his record to 7-1 on the year.

Ricardo Hernandez was the tough luck loser for Barcelona in Game 1. He tossed a complete game giving up just one unearned run on four hits. He struck out fifteen on the day dropping to 8-2.

The lone run came in the top of the seventh inning for Sant Boi. It all started when William Domero started the inning off with a walk. On a failed bunt attempt, Domero advanced to second on a throwing error by Barcelona pitcher Hernandez. He would advance to third on a ground out and then score when Stefano Pistocchi singled up the middle to drive him home.

Game 2 had a little bit more offense, but the result was the same as Sant Boi came out on top again.

Daniel Matias pitched a great game going the distance allowing just two runs on nine hits. He walked two and struck out two to earn the victory improving his record on the year to 8-3.

Jorge Balboa didn’t have his day go as well. He lasted just 2.2 innings giving up seven runs, all earned, on six hits. Oscar Jimenez relieved Balboa and finished the game pitching well but giving up a run.

Dan Martinez had a great day from the lead off spot for Sant Boi. He went 2-for-4 with a two-run single and a RBI triple. Marc Carrillo added a pair of hits of his own scoring a run.

Oscar Angulo and Andrew Avallone both finished the day 3-for-4 for Barcelona in the loss.

In other league action:

Jose Vidal Romero pitched six innings allowing just one run on five hits and striking out eight to pick up a win for San Inazio.

Domingo Morillo tripled and went 3-for-3 for San Inazio in Game 1 against El Llano. In Game 2 he doubled twice, drove in two runs, and finished the game 2-for-4.

Tomas Alvarez finished the double header 4-for-8 scoring three times and stealing four bases, all in Game 2.

Leslie Nacar pitched ten innings to pick up his seventh win. He gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out 19 against Navarra.

Emmanuel Febles had a great day for Navarra. He went 4-for-5 in the first game. He scored two runs, doubled, and stole a base. Then in Game 2 he added two more hits (2-for-5) including a double and another stolen base.

Hector Perozo also had a nice day for Navarra. In the first game he went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBI. In the second he drove in three going 2-for-3.

David Groener had a nice day for the Astros. In Game 1 he went 4-for-5 with two doubles and a stolen base. In Game 2 he didn’t get much to hit walking four times.

Sandel Cuevas went a combined 5-for-9 in the double header. He stole four bases (three in game 1), drove in four (three in game 2), and homered in the second game.

Pedro Peraza (2-for-4) and Edgar Aineto (1-for-5) hit a solo home runs in Game 2 for the Astros.
