Press Release College Baseball Hall of Fame
LUBBOCK, Texas — The College Baseball Hall of Fame is proud to announce Marco Gonzales as the 2013 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year.
The junior pitcher and first baseman at Gonzaga finished the season with a remarkable .311 batting average, seven doubles and 26 RBIs at the plate. In 106 innings on the mound, he logged a .982 fielding percentage, 2.80 ERA, 7-3 record, 96 strikeouts and one save with no home runs allowed.
“I am extremely honored to accept such a prestigious award,” Gonzales said. “This means the world to me and my family. I want to thank my coaches and teammates for believing in me and for giving me the chance to be on the field every day. This is simply a testament of my support group and how important they are to me and my passion for the game of baseball.”
The award is named for the Washington State star who achieved success as both a first baseman and a right-handed pitcher.
