Manny Ramirez is leaving Taiwan.
Ramirez was playing for the EDA Rhinos of the Chinese Professional Baseball League or CPBL, but he has been taken off the active roster. He is leaving the country today, and the word is the reasson why he is leaving is because he misses his family.
The Rhinos had upped Manny’s monthly salary to $60,000 and were reportedly letting he and an uncle stay in the presidential suite of the Crown Hotel in Kaohsiung. But family has trumped his desire to stay in Taiwan. His contract ran only through the end of June, but he told the team he wished to leave a little early.
But he hasn’t retired.
So far there is no new contract for Manny. Not in Japan or the USA. He would love to get back to the MLB, but the jump in caliber of play from the CPBL to MLB is quite big.
So the Manny experiment in Taiwan is over. How did he do? He did pretty good for the CPBL.
Ramirez hit .352 in 49 games which ranked him third in the league. His 8 home runs were second in the league. The Rhinos are tied for first place right now as Manny leaves, and it remains to be scene how his absence in the middle of that lineup will effect their play.
Manny Ramirez’s CPBL Stats:
It remains to be seen if a MLB team will take a chance on Manny or if he is done for good. What do you think? Do you want your favorite team to take a chance with Manny Ramirez?
