The 2013 College World Series is down to the final four teams.
In Bracket 1, #3 Oregon State will need to beat Mississippi State twice to advance to the championship series. While in Bracket 2, UCLA is the undefeated team going up against #1 North Carolina.
How they got here?
Mississippi State has made two comeback wins advancing through the winner’s bracket. They scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning in their first game to defeat #3 Oregon State. Then in Game 2 they scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take down Indiana. The two wins have put them in the driver’s seat for a trip to the championship series. They will face #3 Oregon State at 3:00 PM EST and need just one win to advance.
Oregon State is one of only two national seeds left in the tournament. The #3 Beavers lost a tough game in their first match to Mississippi State giving up two late runs. That dropped them down into the loser’s bracket where they have thrived. They dominated Louisville bouncing them from the CWS with an 11-4 win. Their next game was a thriller, a 1-0 win over Indiana. The Beavers got a complete game shutout out of Matt Boyd to hold off the dangerous Indiana club to advance. Now they are looking for revenge against Mississippi State needing two wins to advance to the championship series.
UCLA has won two games both by the score of 2-1. Their first game came against #4 LSU when they got a great start out of Adam Plutko holding LSU to just a single run. They came back with another close win over North Carolina State getting another great start out of Nick Vander Tuig to pick up the win. Now they face #1 North Carolina needing just a single win to advance to the championship series.
North Carolina is the #1 ranked team but they started off by losing their first game 8-1 to NC State. They bounced back with a tough 4-2 win over a great LSU team that put them into a rematch with their ACC rivals NC State. The second time around UNC got the better of them. Hobbs Johnson pitched great almost tossing a complete game shutout to pitch UNC into the match up with UCLA. North Carolina needs to win two games to advance to the championship series.
