Press Release College Baseball Hall of Fame

LUBBOCK, Texas — As postseason play gets underway, the College Baseball Hall of Fame has announced the 10 semifinalists for the Pitcher of the Year Award.

The winner of the Pitcher of the Year Award, sponsored by Diamond Sports, will be announced June 29 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the annual College Baseball Night of Champions. The event features the presentation of numerous awards and the induction ceremony for this year’s Hall of Fame class.

“The pitchers on this list continue to demonstrate excellence on the mound,” said award chairman Raymond Richardson. “As we’ve progressed through the season, we’ve been able to narrow down the list, but many of the pitchers across the country have made it a tough task.”

UCLA right-handed sophomore David Berg leads the top 10 in both ERA (0.70) and appearances (41). He also has 18 saves and a 6-0 record.

Stanford’s Mark Appel, who won the 2012 Pitcher of the Year Award, heads the list in strikeouts with 130, narrowly leading Savannah State’s Kyle McGowin, who has 129, and Oklahoma junior Jonathan Gray, who has 127. McGowin holds the lead in innings pitched with 115.1. He also has a 12-1 record.

“To see how consistent these pitchers have been all year has been truly impressive,” Richardson said. “And to see several conferences continue to have multiple representatives speaks to the quality of baseball being played across the country.”
