College: North Carolina Tops Baseball America Preseason Top 25

The NCAA Division I college baseball season kicks off this weekend with North Carolina ranked #1 by Baseball America for the first time in the programs history.

UNC has had a lot of success in recent years with five trips to Omaha in the past seven seasons. And this year they return perhaps the deepest pitching staff in the country.

The Southeastern Conference leads all conferences with eight total teams in the Top 25, including five of the Top 10. They are led by #2 Vanderbilt and #3 Arkansas. Last season’s runner-up, South Carolina, starts the year at #7.

The Pacific-12 Conference isn’t too far behind the SEC with a total of five teams. The Atlantic Coast Conference ranks third with four teams.

Defending national champion Arizona enters the season after losing a lot of key players just cracking the Top 25 in at #24.

New Mexico is making its first ever appearance in the preseason polls. The last time it made the Baseball America Top 25 was back in early 2009.
