Day 3 of the 2013 Women’s Phoenix Cup from Hong Kong is in the books.
The day started off with a match between defending champion Shilin High School against Korea, and once again Shilin High dominated the game. It jumped out to a 3-0 lead after an inning, but they quickly put the game far out of reach of Korea with an 8-run 2nd inning. They would go on to win 13-3.
Shilin High would come back for the nightcap as well. This time they faced off with Taipei Vanguard and it was over before the top of the first was finished. When it was finished, Shilin High led 9-0. they would add 17 more runs in the next two innings ending the game early winning going away 26-0.
In 5 games so far, they have outscored their opponents 68-12 which isn’t quite as good as they did the year before when they won 5 games outscoring their opponents 69-7. However, no matter which way you look at it they are the dominant team of the tournament. They will play a final game Monday against the host Hong Kong Allies.
The Allies have had mixed results so far in this year’s tournament. On Day 4 they lost 10-0 against the Far East Bombers of Japan before routing the Hong Kong Developmental team 20-3 later in the day.
Team Australia has also had a great tournament so far. They finished their tournament on Day 4 with a 13-3 victory over the Far East Bombers and an 11-1 victory over the Hong Kong Developmental team.
Team Australia finished the tournament 5-1 only losing to Shilin High in what was a great game. In their 6 games, they outscored their opponents 64-24.
Monday, Day 4, will finish out the tournament with a three game slate.
Up first will be the Hong Kong Developmental team looking for their first win against Taipei Vanguard. Both teams are 0-5 so far, but Vanguard has been more competative.
The second game of the day will feature defending champion Shilin High against the host Allies. The Allies are looking to be the first team in the tournament to knock off Shilin High.
The last game of the day, and the tournament, will feature the squad from Korea (2-3) against the Far East Bombers of Japan (3-2).
