WASHINGTON, Pennsylvania – Long Beach, California defeated Chinese Taipei 9-7 to capture the 2012 Pony League World Series Title. It was Long Beach’s 4th title and the 21st overall for California.
Long Beach jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the 2nd, but it didn’t last long. In the bottom half of the inning, Chinese Taipei came back with 5 runs of their own to tie the game.
Spencer Steer hit a 3-run home run for Long Beach in their 5-run 2nd inning. With the game tied at 5, Bryan Smith hit a pinch-hit 2-run home run to give Long Beach a 7-5 lead in the 3rd inning. They would cap their scoring in the 4th inning when Steer would hit his 2nd home run of the game, this time a 2-run shot.
Chia Lung Lai pulled Chinese Taipei even at 5 in the 2nd inning with the 39th all-time grand slam.
