T&A San Marino defended its Italian Series title with a win on Friday night over Telemarket Rimini. San Marino won in style with a walk-off RBI double with one out in the bottom of the 9th by Francesco Imperiali.
T&A San Marino jumped out on top 3-0 scoring all 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd on a 3-run home run by Imperiali. They added another run in the 6th on an RBI single by Carlos Duran.
However, Rimini came back strong trailing 4-0 and tied the game with 4 runs of its own in the top of the 7th. Joseph Persichina (2-for-5) singled driving in 2 runs tying the game.
That’s where the game stayed until the bottom of the 9th. After Laidel Chapelli singled with one out, Imperiali drove him home to win the game with a double to right field.
Tiago Da Silva went the distance for San Marino allowing 4 runs (3 ER) on 12 hits to pick up the win. Carlos Pezzullo took the loss in relief.
T&A San Marino took the series 4-games-to-2 after winning the first 3 games.
