Puerto Rico Wins 2012 Big League World Series

EASLEY, South Carolina –  Prior to the final, the Puerto Rico pitching staff had given up only 3 runs. So, when South Carolina District 1 scored 3 runs in the first 3 innings it was a bit of a shock. Puerto Rico roared into the 2012 Big League World Series Championship undefeated having simply rolled through the international pool.

Then down 3-0 after 2.5 innings, they roared back to score 4 runs to take the lead. They would never look back.

Alexis Cruz (1-for-3) tied the game in the bottom of the 3rd with a 3-run home run. Alexis Olmeda (2-for-3 followed up with a RBI double later in the inning as Puerto Rico took the lead and would never give it up again. Puerto Rico would score 1 more in the 5th inning and put the game away with 2 more runs in the bottom of the 6th on a Rafael Olivaras (1-for-2) 2-RBI single.

Ereven Roper had a good day for South Carolina going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Stephen McKnight chipped in with 2 hits in 3 at bats driving in a run.

Yadiel Cruz picked up the win in relief tossing 4 shutout innings.

This was Puerto Rico’s 4th Title and 2nd in the past 3 years (2010).
