PERTH, Australia – The Australian Baseball League (ABL) had its first all-star game last week held at Barbagallo Ballpark, home of the Perth Heat.
The game pitted the Australian All-Stars against the World All-Stars with the World team coming out on top 8-5.
The World team was led by MVP Tyler Collins (2-for-5) who hit a 3-run home run and scored 2 runs in the game.
The World team jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 3 innings but team Australia came back in the bottom of the 6th to make it a game with 3 runs of their own. Mathew Kennelly drove in 2 with a single to center to put team Australia on the board. A passed ball by World team catcher Ayatsugu Yamashita allowed the 3rd run to score making it 4-3.
However, the World team took control of the game in the top of the 7th as Tyler Collins came through with a 3-run home run to put the game out of reach.
Center fielder James McOwen went 3-for-4 with a run scored and a double to set the table for the World team. Mychal Givens drove in a run going 2-for-5 and Brian Burgamy went 3-for-5 for the World team.
Justin Huber led the way for team Australia going 3-for-5 with a RBI and a run scored. Joshua Roberts chipped in with 2 hits of his own including a solo home run.
