Italy: Godo-Verona North East Knights Sign New Closer

ITALY – Former Philadelphia Phillies pitching prospect Peter Nyari has been signed by the Italian Baseball League club Godo-Verona North East Knights. He has previously pitched in the IBL with both Cariparma Parma and T&A San Marino.

The 39-year-old right-hander will take over as the new closer for a squad that finished in the IBL cellar last year with a dismal 7-35 record. A former Italian national team hurler, Nyari has posted a career 4.00 ERA in 129 games in Italy.

The Erie, Pennsylvania native baseball career appeared to have ended when he fell from the third floor of an Italian apartment complex in 2008. However, the Italian-American has fully recovered and is reportedly throwing a low 90s fastball.
