ITALY – T&A San Marino has signed former Seattle Mariners pitching prospect Renee Cortez for the upcoming 2011 season. The Italian Baseball League (IBL) club finished in second-place during the regular season last year with a 28-14 record.
The Venezuelan right-hander went 26-27 with a 3.89 ERA in 200 appearances over seven seasons. The 28-year-old reached as high as Triple-A and racked up 410 strikeouts and 155 walks in 446-plus innings.
Cortez, who is also a member of the Venezuelan National Team, is currently pitching for the Margarita Bravos in the Venezuelan Winter League.
GROSSETO INKS NEW OUTFIELDER
Montepaschi Grosseto has signed former Danesi Nettuno outfielder Luis Perez. The 27-year-old Venezuelan, who has also suited up for the Spanish League club Tenerife Marlins, batted .329 with six extra-base hits and 14 RBIs in 23 games last year.
NETTUNO ADDS DOMINICAN SLUGGER
Danesi Nettuno continued its busy offseason with the signing of Dominican infielder Olmo Rosario. The 30-year-old, who batted .318 with 19 extra-base hits and 28 RBIs last year for the Catania Warriors, will join free agent signees Juan Camilo (Cariparma Parma) and Kelly Ramos (Montepaschi Grosseto) in a revamped offensive lineup.
PARMA INKS VENEZUELAN OUTFIELDER
Cariparma Parma has tabbed former Toronto Blue Jays minor leaguer Rodney Medina to replace Juan Camilo in the outfield. The 29-year-old hit .297 with 162 extra-base hits in 604 games.
KNIGHTS SIGN CORNER INFIELDER
The North East Knights have inked former Minnesota Twins prospect Rene Alexander Leveret. The 25-year-old first baseman batted .294 with 18 homers and 143 RBIs in 216 minor league games.
