VENEZUELA – The Caracas Leones defeated the Margarita Bravos 8-2 to force a 1 game playoff. The win for Caracas pushed their record to 10-6 which equaled that of the Aragua Tigres. Both fell a game behind the Anzoategui Caribes.
Caracas 8, Margarita 2
Caracas fell down 2-1 early, but pounded out 18 hits to secure the victory. Down by a run in the 4th, Caracas would score at least a run in 6 of the next 7 innings to pull away. Josh Kroeger hit his 3rd home run going 3-for-5 with 2 RBI, a double, and 3 runs scored. Gregor Blanco chipped in with 4 hits, and catcher Carlos Maldonado drove in 2 while collecting 3 hits. Gustavo Chacin picked up his 2nd victory going 5 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 5.
Jacob Blackwood was the only bright spot for Margarita as he homered driving in 2 runs. Alberto Bastardo took the loss on the mound giving up 3 runs in 4 innings.
Anzoategui 6, Aragua 5
In a battle for who would advance to the finals, the Anzoategui Caribes defeated the Aragua Tigres 6-5. The Caribes jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Tigres would bounce back quickly by scoring 3 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. After tying the game in the 3rd, the Tigres fell down by 2 runs in the 5th and could never recover.
Niuman Romero went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI to lead the Caribes offensive attack. Eliezer Alfonzo and Cesar Suarez both chipped in with 2 hits and a RBI each.
Lastings Milledge led the way for the Tigres going 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI.
Aragua will now face off with Caracas in a winner take all game. The winner advances to face Anzoategui in the championship round with a chance to advance to the Caribbean Series.
