Pacific Coast League: Memphis Takes 2-0 Lead in Semifinals

Memphis Redbirds 3, Oklahoma City 2

Memphis took a 2-0 lead in the Pacific Coast League Semifinals on Thursday night with a 3-2 victory over Oklahoma City. Brandon McCarthy went 6 innings giving up 3 runs on 8 hits to take the loss.   The game was scoreless until the 5th inning when Oklahoma City got on the board with 2 runs. Willy Taveras singled in a run and was promptly driven in by Chris Davis with another RBI single putting the RedHawks up 2-0.  Brandon Boggs committed a cardinal sin of baseball being thrown out at 3rd base on the play for the final out of the inning.

Memphis came right back in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game at 2.  Tony Cruz led off the inning with a ground-rule double.  After a single put runners at the corners, James Rapoport singled home Cruz to put Memphis on the board.  Allen Craig would later ground out driving in a run to tie the game.

The game would not stay tied for long as Memphis would get the go ahead and eventual winning run in the 6th.  The hero from game 1 Joe Mather would single to start the inning.  With 1 out, Ruben Gotay would then drive in the winning run with a double to right field.

The series will now switch to Oklahoma City as the RedHawks look to bounce back in the series.
