Dutch Wins Haarlem Baseball Week Crown

THE NETHERLANDS – DOOR Neptunus slugger Danny Rombley capped a big night at the plate with a game-ending, two-run double in the bottom of the 10th, and the Dutch national team clinched the 2010 Haarlem Baseball Week championship with a 10-9 victory against Japan. The reigning European champion improved to 7-0 with the narrow win.

Rombley, a former Wasington Nationals prospect who won the 2007 Dutch League batting title, put together a 4-for-6 effort with a pair of doubles and four RBIs to lead the Dutch national squad to its third Haarlem Baseball Week crown. Former big league slugger Randall Simon (pictured) went hitless in three at-bats in his first action since rejoining the Orange and Black a few days ago.

Daisuke Ikemoto drove in two runs and scored twice with four hits to pace a youthful Japanese contingent.

Michiel van Kampen picked up the win in relief of starter Rob Cordemans, while Japanese reliever Tatsuya Masuda was charged with the loss.

NJCAA All-Stars 7, Taiwan 5
Jared Womack and Marty Gant collected a pair of RBIs apiece, and the American junior college All-Stars used a seven-run fifth to capture their second win of the tournament against Taiwan.

Tyler Bremer picked up the win despite giving up five runs and a whopping 11 hits in five innings of work.

Po Ting Hsiao tallied three hits and drove in two runs for the Taiwanese squad.
