TAIWAN – The Brother Elephants of the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) announced recently that 2009 Dutch League MVP Ryan Murphy will play for the beleaguered club this upcoing season.
The Elephants were almost disbanded a few months ago after the CPBL was rocked with yet another game-fixing scandal.
Murphy, a dual threat at the plate or on the mound, spent three seasons in the Dutch League with MediaMonks RCH (2006) and the Konica Minolta Pioniers (2007-08). He batted .328 with 68 RBIs in 119 games while compiling a 21-13 record with a 2.34 ERA and 211 strikeouts in 304 1/3 innings.
The Australian native, who led South Australia to the recently concluded Dominoes Claxton Shield Grand Final, will join CPBL star Peng Cheng-min with the Elephants.
Peng was recently cited as a national hero for his moral character which has made him an “untouchable” for gambling operators recruiting players for match-fixing schemes.

What has the league done to protect players form the gambling operators? Does the league educate the player to identify these gamblers? What has the league done to bring back your fans to the baseball park?
Ryan Murphy is a Canadian, not Aussie despite all his ties to the country. He’s from Edmonton I believe.
Thanks for the correction.

Elephants decided to release Murphy after his poor performance as a starting pitcher on his first game on 21 March. He pitched for 3.1 innings, gave up 6 hits, including a 3-run homer.
