NIGERIA – The top pitcher in the West Africa Olympic Qualifier the past three years, right-hander Henry Ekpoto is hopeful of pitching in Europe in 2010. Ekpoto was featured in the BaseballdeWorld Free Agent Directory – Part 1.
The soon-to-be 29-year-old, who also plays third base, reportedly throws in the 85-87 mph range. Ekpoto has garnered a wagon load of awards as the top hurler in Nigeria.
INDIVIDUAL AWARDS:
• Two-time silver medalist for Lagos State at the National Sport Festival.
• Two-time gold medalist at the Bogi Wings baseball championship in Nigeria.
• Most Valuable Pitcher at the Bogi Wings baseball championship in Nigeria.
• Gold medalist for Bariga local govt. at the Lagos State Sport Festival.
• Three-time No. 1 pitcher at the West African Olympic Qualifiers in Nigeria.
• Two-time No. 1 pitcher/third baseman for Akwa Ibom State.
• 2009 Best Pitcher/Third baseman for Ondo State at Super 4 Qualifiers.
