As more information comes in regarding the Dominican baseball players who were promised jobs in the Dutch League, BaseballdeWorld.com has learned that the alleged team owner of the Amsterdam Ajax football club may also have been a victim of the scam.
According to sources in the Dominican Republic, the Ajax football team owner also owns a baseball team in the Netherlands which the players were hoping to join. However, a Dominican recruiter, Mr. Amauri Beltran, collected the players’ passports and cash and then did a Houdini act.
The players – including top players Abraham Nunez (pictured) Felix Jose, Julio Ramirez, Elpidio Guzman, Israel Alcantara, Eddy Garabito, Juan Melo and Daniel Sanchez – are seeking the name and phone number of the team owner who allegedly also owns the Ajax football club in Holland.
The players were supposed to take part in a tryout camp in the Netherlands on Nov. 29.
“I do not want to miss this chance of playing in Holland,” wrote Sanchez, a former Pittsburgh Pirates prospect, in an email.
If anyone can provide information or assistance to this talented group of ballplayers, please contact Julio Ramirez at 829-376-5474.
