SPAIN – FC Barcelona of the Spanish League is cutting ties with staff ace Homer Baez and shortstop Juan Manuel Salazar. The third-place club will replace the duo with former Viladecan standouts Delio Miguel Martinez and Oscar Angulo.
Baez (pictured), a native of Venezuela, posted a 13-3 record with a 1.82 ERA this past season. The southpaw racked up 128 strikeouts in 128 1/3 innings with just 42 walks in his sixth and final season with the Spanish League heavyweight.
Salazar, who spent five years in Barcelona, batted .346 in 2009 with seven doubles and 16 RBIs.
Martinez enjoyed a successful rookie campaign this past season with CB Viladecans. The right-hander tallied 99 strikeouts in 135 innings while going 7-6 with a 2.20 ERA in 17 starts.
Angulo, who batted .379 in his Spanish League debut last season, will replace Salazar. The middle infielder also swatted eight doubles, four triples, four home runs, and scored 32 runs.
