SOUTH KOREA – Former major leaguer Jerry Royster has agreed to a one-year deal to return as coach of the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization, the Busan-based club announced Thursday.
Royster enjoyed a 15-year Major League Baseball (MLB) career (1973-1988) and was the interim manager of the Milwaukee Brewers during the 2002 season. He later became manager and led the Brewers to a 53-94 record.
The 57-year-old, who became the first non-Korean skipper in the history of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), and led the cellar-dwelling Giants to back-to-back postseason appearances in two seasons, agreed to a one-year contract worth $600,000 (720 million won) ? a $300,000 signing fee and a $300,000 salary.
The Sacramento, Calif. native inked a a $750,000 two-year deal late in 2007.
