UNITED STATES – The Florida Marlins announced recently that Pitcher Cristhian Martinez and outfielder Michael Stanton (pictured) have been named the organization’s Minor League Players of the Year.
Martinez, who was selected as the Minor League Pitcher of the Year, went 9-3 with a 2.94 ERA at Jacksonville (Double-A).
The 27-year-old tallied 17 appearances with the Suns and was promoted to the big league club on four occasions where he posted a 1-1 record and 5.13 ERA in 15 games.
Stanton was chosen as the Minor League Player of the Year after hitting .255 and leading the organization with 28 homers and 92 RBIs.
The 19-year-old slugger, regarded as one of the top overall prospects in the minor leagues, started the year at Class A Jupiter before being promoted to Double-A.
Both prospects helped Jacksonville to finish the season strong and capture the Southern League championship.
