Taiwan Series: Lions Eyeing CPBL Crown

TAIWAN – The Uni-President Lions will battle Brother Elephants in the 2009 Taiwan Series. The best-of-seven Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) will get underway on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The Lions, who are the defending CPBL champion, earned a spot in the finals by winning the first half of the season with a 34-24-2 record. The Elephants, who finished in the cellar of the four-team league with a 21-38-1 mark to start the year, won the second half standings with a record of 33-25-2.

Overall, the Lions finished with the league’s best record at 63-54-3, followed by the La New Bears (61-58-1), Sinon Bulls (57-60-3), and the Elephants (54-63-3).
