SOUTH KOREA – Doosan left fielder Kim Hyeon-su cracked a pair of doubles and the Bears chased Samsung starter Francisco Cruceta after just 1 1/3 innings to capture a 7-5 win over the Lions in action from the Korea Baseball Organization.
The Bears roughed up Cruceta (9-10) for six quick runs and coasted to the win. Kim Hyeon-su went 3-for-4 with a two doubles and a run scored, while third baseman Kim Dong-ju added two hits and a pair of RBIs.
Samsung left fielder Choi Hyeong-woo slugged a two-run homer for the Lions in a losing cause.
Juan Cedeno (4-6) picked up the win for the Bears, and closer LeeYong-chan notched his 26th save of the season.
KIA TIGERS BLANK SEOUL HEROES
Choi Hee-seop and Kim Sang-hyeon both popped two-run long balls and the KIA Tigers shutout the Seoul Heroes 5-0.
The two sluggers, who combined to drive home all five of the Tigers’ scores, also crossed the plate three times.
Aquilino Lopez (14-5) worked seven strong innings while allowing two walks and three hits.
LOTTE GIANTS SNEAK INTO PLAYOFFS
The Lotte Giants secured the final playoff spot in the Korea Baseball Organization this past Wednesday when SK Wyverns beat the Samsung Lions, 7-4.
The Giants, who are led by former major leaguer Jerry Royster, found itself in last place on June 8 after a rash of injuries caused the squad to stumble out of the gate. However, the second-year American skipper has steered the Busan-based franchise to their second consecutive post-season appearance after a seven year absence from 2001-07.
