UNITED STATES – Chicago Cubs first baseman Derrek Lee has been named the recipient of the Heart and Hustle Award. Cleveland Indians outfielder Grady Sizemore won the overall award in 2008.
Presented annually to an active player who demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game – the award is voted on by players in the Major League Baseball Alumni Association.
Each team selects a recipient and the overall winner is honored at the Legends for Youth Dinner in New York on November 6. David Eckstein won the first Heart and Hustle Award in 2005, and Craig Biggio won back to back years in 2006-07.
Lee (.293 with 25 homers and 86 RBIs), who has hit safely in 26 of his past 33 games, ranks second in the Major Leagues in RBIs since July 1 with 47.
