2009 MLB All-Star Game Rosters

USA – USA – The Boston Red Sox will have a major league-high six players headed to Busch Stadium for the 80th All-Star game on July 14, while the ailing New York Mets topped the National League with four representatives.

Reigning NL MVP Albert Pujols was the leading vote-getter for the Midsummer Classic announced Sunday by Major League Baseball. Pujols received 5,397,374 votes to finish with the second-highest total in major league history. Ken Griffey Jr.’s holds the record with six million votes in 1994.

Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees was the top vote-getter in the AL and will make his 10th appearance in the All-Star Game.

There remains one spot open on both 33-man rosters, which was increased by one from a year ago.

The AL candidates for the last spot in Internet voting includes Kinsler, Toronto designated hitter Adam Lind, third basemen Chone Figgins of the Angels and Brandon Inge of Detroit, and Rays first baseman Carlos Pena.

The NL candidates for the final spot are Arizona third baseman Mark Reynolds, outfielders Matt Kemp of the Dodgers and Shane Victorino of the Phillies, Giants infielder Pablo Sandoval and Nationals shortstop Cristian Guzman.

The league that wins the All-Star game will have home-field advantage in this year’s World Series.
