SOUTH KOREA – Lotte Giants outfielder Jung Soo-keun will rejoin his Korean League club after having his suspension lifted by the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) on June 26.
The fleet-footed Jung, who has 471 career stolen bases, has a long history of violence and alcohol abuse.
The 32-year-old was suspended indefinitely a year ago after going on a drunken rage and beating a police officer and an apartment janitor. Prior to his banishment by the league, Jung had a number of run-ins with the law.
The 14-year veteran was fined $450 after fighting with a Korean national during training camp in Hawaii in 2003, and was arrested in Busan the following year after trying to hit someone with a baseball bat. The KBO fined Jung three-million won ($2,400) and suspended him seven games for the incident.
The career.281 hitter also missed 20 games after getting suspended indefinitely by the league for a drunken driving offense.
The former Doosan Bears All-Star, who signed as a free agent with the Giants in 2004, made his KBO debut in 1995 and has collected 443 RBIs and scored 857 runs in 1,529 games.
Jung is expected to rejoin the Giants after the All-Star game on July 28.
