USA – The University of Maryland has hired Vanderbilt assistant coach Erik Bakich as its new head coach. Bakich, who joined the Commodores staff age the age of 24, had previous coaching stints at Clemson and East Carolina.
“We will miss his energy and tenaciousness at Vanderbilt. That combination is what made him so successful at Vanderbilt. He will carry that to Maryland,” Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin told the Associated Press.
WASHINGTON FIRES VETERAN SKIPPER
The University of Washington announced recently the firing of long-time baseball coach Ken Knutson. The Huskies’ all-time leader in wins, Knutson was 584-399-2 with a 240-189 record against Pac-10 foes.
Washington finished the season 25-30 with a 13-14 conference mark. Knutson, who won two Pac-10 championships in 17 seasons at the helm, has spent the last 27 years as a player, assistant coach and head coach at the university.
