TAIWAN – Ming-Chieh Hsu worked four scoreless relief innings to help the La News Bears tun back the Brother Elephants, 6-2, this past Sunday in part one of a doubleheader. The Bears completed the sweep with a 10-5 victory in the second game.
With 6,023 Taiwanese fans in the stadium, the Bears opened the game with two first inning scores and added four runs in the fourth to grab a 6-0 lead. The Elephants tagged La New starter Si-Yo Wu (4-4) with two scores in the bottom of the fourth before Hsu silenced the bats of the home team the final four frames.
The Elephants rolled to a quick 3-0 lead in the second game before La New tallied eight straight runs en route to a 10-5 win.
Chih-Sheng Lin and Chung-Wei Pan both homered for the Bears, while Ssu-Chi Chou enjoyed a 4-for-4 effort at the plate for the Elphants.
Mike Johnson (2-1) worked five innings to get the win for La New. Brother starter Yu-Cheng Liao (5-3) was chased in the fourth inning and took the loss.
UNI-PRESIDENT SWEEPS SINON
The Uni-President Lions swept the Sinon Bulls in a doubleheader Sunday in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Mickey Callaway (6-3) tossed six scoreless innings and Fu-Hao Liu went 3-for-4 and hit his second home run of the season in a 5-0 win in the opening game. Jose Castillo and Sung-Hsien Yang each had two hits apiece for the reigning league champion.
Ying-Chieh Lin (2-4) allowed two runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings and was charged with the loss.
In the second meeting, Wei-Lun Pan (6-4) limited Sinon to four hits and one unearned run in six strong innings to help Uni-President registe the sweep with a 4-1 win.
Shoda Itsuki (6-3) was pinned with the setback after giving up four runs and 10 hits.
Castillo, Tung-Yi Yang, KC Kao and Lien-Hung Chen each had two hits for the Lions.
