NETHERLANDS – Diegomar Markwell pitched eight innings of four-hit ball and DOOR Neptunus edged the Konica Minolta Pioniers 1-0 Friday night at Rotterdam in the Dutch Major League to capture their 10th straight win.
In a low-scoring affair which saw Markwell and Konica Minolta starter Ryan Murphy combine for 16 strikeouts, Neptunus scored the lone run of the game in the fourth. National team veteran Raily Legito opened the inning with a two-base hit and scored on Lennart Koster’s two-out single.
Markwell struck out nine and walked three in a superb outing before giving way to closer Berry van Driel who worked a perfect ninth to register the save.
Murphy was the touch-luck loser despite allowing just one run and six hits in a complete game effort.
CORENDON KINHEIM 7, MR. COCKER HCAW 3
David Bergman tossed seven strong innings and Jason Halman had three hits to help Corendon Kinheim beat Mr. Cocker HCAW at Haarlem on Thursday night.
Kinheim opened the scoring in the second on an RBI groundout by Rafael Jozefa, and stretched the lead to 3-0 the next inning on Bryan Engelhardt’s two-run double.
HCAW finally hit paydirt in the fourth when Jason Rees, who led off the inning with a double, scored on a groundout by Adrian Anthony. However, Kinheim added four scoes over the final three innings to seal the win.
Bergman gave up seven hits while striking out six to notch the win, while HCAW starter Joey Eijpe surrendered six runs and 10 hits to get pinned with the loss.
MEDIAMONKS RCH 6, SPARTA/FEYENOORD 2
Martin Kuipers threw five effective innings and MediaMonks RCH scalped another Dutch playoff contender with a 6-2 win over Sparta/Feyenoord Thursday night in Heemstede.
Czech native Jakub Malik went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to help RCH – which knocked off Corendon Kinheim last week – register just their third victory of the year.
Nick Eppinga and Mike Bazuin each had two hits apiece for Sparta/Feyenoord.
Kuipers allowed two runs on five hits to get the win, while closer Dave Draijer worked 1 2/3 innings with three strikeouts to record the save.
Gregory Gustina struck out eight but gave up five runs on seven hits and three walks to get saddled with the loss.
